Why Roof Tarping Is Crucial in an Emergency
Roof tarping isn’t just a temporary fix; it’s a vital step in preserving the structural integrity of your roof until permanent repairs can be made. Severe weather in the Houston metro area is common: according to NOAA, Harris County saw over 70 severe weather warnings in 2023, including hail, high wind, and tornado alerts. That means tarping services are not a luxury; they’re often a necessity.
Unprotected roof breaches can lead to:
- Mold and mildew growth within 24–48 hours can create serious health hazards and require costly remediation.
- Structural wood rot and damaged insulation, increasing the scope and expense of roof replacement.
- Electrical hazards from water infiltration, leading to fire risks.
- Insurance claim denial due to “failure to mitigate,” a common clause in most homeowner policies.

Roof Tarping Options – Comparison Table
Tarping Option | Typical Use Case | Lifespan | Pros | Considerations |
Standard Poly Tarp | Quick fixes for minor storm damage | 30–60 days | Affordable, fast installation | Less UV resistant, not ideal for long term |
Heavy-Duty Reinforced | Moderate to severe storm damage | 60–90 days | Tear-resistant, longer-lasting | Requires proper anchoring |
Fire-Retardant Tarp | Post-fire protection, insurance claims | 60+ days | Adds safety for fire-damaged structures | May require board-up service too |
Shrink-Wrap Tarp | Long-term coverage before full repairs | 3–6 months | Waterproof seal, weather-resistant | Higher cost, requires a skilled application |
What to Expect from Our Roof Tarping Process
Our certified team follows a proven protocol for fast, reliable, and secure roof tarping:
- Immediate Response and Site Assessment
We arrive quickly, day or night, to assess the extent of damage, weather conditions, and safe roof access. Using aerial equipment and safety ladders, we take photos and measurements for your records and insurance. - Debris Removal and Surface Prep
Loose shingles, broken branches, and damaged flashing are carefully cleared. This ensures the tarp adheres tightly and reduces the risk of further tears or punctures. Clearing debris also allows us to check for water entry points and soft spots in decking. - Tarp Installation with Proper Anchoring
We install heavy-duty tarps over the affected areas, extending coverage at least 3 feet beyond visible damage. Tarps are fastened using 2×4 wooden boards and screws, not nails, to prevent leaks. We avoid flapping by overlapping seams and anchoring to the roof’s slope. This method ensures long-lasting coverage even in high winds. - Final Inspection and Documentation
A complete inspection confirms the roof tarp’s security and integrity. We then provide a detailed report for your insurance company, including photos, measurements, and material usage.
Roof Tarping in Pasadena
Storm damage can leave vulnerable areas of a roof exposed before permanent repairs are ready to begin. Temporary tarping can provide an added layer of protection while the damage is evaluated and the next phase of work is scheduled. Our approach is to first understand the condition of the roof so the temporary solution makes sense for the situation. When Should You Call for Roof Tarping?
Not all roof damage is immediately obvious. If your home or building experiences any of the following, call for an inspection:
- Visible roof leaks or dripping from the ceiling.
- Shingle blow-offs after wind gusts exceeding 40–50 mph.
- Hailstorms that pelted your neighborhood.
- Tree limbs or debris impacting the structure.
- Cracked skylights or punctured vents.
- Water stains appearing on walls or ceilings.
Check our roof maintenance checklist for signs of wear before storms hit.
Waiting too long could void insurance coverage or worsen the damage.
Same-Day Roof Tarping & Board-Up Services
For homes hit hard by hurricanes, fires, or vandalism, we also offer board-up services to protect entry points, windows, and broken siding.
Situations That Call for Emergency Board-Ups:
- Post-storm break-ins
- Fire damage that compromises the structure
- Car collisions with your home or garage
- Severe wind-driven debris damage
Our board-up crew uses pressure-treated plywood, anchored with non-invasive methods where possible to prevent added damage. This adds a layer of protection and privacy while you coordinate permanent repairs.
